New report on pipeline incidents

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new report from the National Wildlife Federation says Michigan had 61 pipeline and oil related incidents in the last ten years and that did not count this Kalamazoo River spill.  A Marshall man representing more than 100 of his neighbors spoke about this spill's impact.

"I actually live within blocks of here," said Beau Jencks of Marshall Herd Management.

The Kalamazoo River is Beau Jenck's neighborhood, where he loves to hunt and fish.

"When I found out about this it shook me to my core," said Jencks.

He also spoke for the 125 other members of the Marshall Herd Management Coop that helps assess the area wildlife and creates food plots.

"When I see the river today it breaks my heart," said Jencks.

"When is enough enough," asked Danielle Korpalski of National Wildlife Federation.

Beau spoke with the National Wildlife Federation and State Representative Kate Segal about the Enbridge spill.

"Those that are responsible for this need to make sure it's paid for and not just when the cameras are still here," said Rep. Kate Segal.

They also presented a new report that ranked Michigan in the nation in pipeline accidents.

"It can set the economies back of our local communities years if not decades," said Rob Sisson of Republicans for Environmental Protection.

Beau Jencks can see that nearby.  Storage trucks, booms, and a river with an oily sheen have replaced a habitat he cares for dearly.

"We need to get this spill cleaned up and cleaned up now," said Jencks.
