Jury selection to begin in case of parents charged in daughter's death

CENTREVILLE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday in the trial of Anthony and Marsha Springer.

The Springers are both charged with manslaughter and child abuse in their daughter's death back in February of 2008.

After firefighters put out a fire at the Springers' home, they found 16-year-old Calista Springer dead, chained to her bed.

The Springers claim Calista had special needs and chaining her to the bed was necessary to keep her from leaving her bedroom and house at night.

A faulty vacuum cleaner has been cited as the cause of the fire.
