Counselor facing sexual misconduct charges in court again

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Legal problems continue to mount for former Grand Rapids Public Schools mentor Kenneth Hoskins Jr.

Hoskins is already facing two charges of criminal sexual conduct after officers say he had sex with two teenage girls, both of whom where students he worked with at Central High School.

Hoskins' bond agreement does not allow him to have contact with the girls, but now Hoskins is accused of meeting one, violating his bond, and that put him in front of a judge on Friday.

Hoskins may now have to stay in jail until his trial, and on Friday family members of one of the victims say that he shouldn't have been out at all.

During a brief court hearing, Hoskins' attorney, John Beason, told the judge Hoskins is innocent.

"We are not agreeing and we object to this order to show cause because it was not the victim," said Beason.

However, family members of the girl in question say the allegation of the meeting is true, and they say they're horrified that Hoskins is out of jail and still causing problems. Newschannel 3 is withholding the identities of the family to protect the victim.

"I feel that in our day and age right now with all these predators running around, I feel he's a sexual predator and that he should be behind bars until he goes to trial," said a family member.

In two previous hearings, underage girls testified that Hoskins, the former school counselor, built relationships with them that led to sex inside his office at school.

Both victims said they didn't want to testify against him and that they were in love with him. Now, family members of one of those victims say they're scared that the relationship seems to be continuing.

"Because she's a young girl and we tried to protect all our young children," said a family member, "and for him to be continuously out in the public is ridiculous."

Newschannel 3 tried to get a comment from Hoskins' attorney as he left the courthouse, but he wouldn't provide any answers on behalf of his client.

Hoskins is due back in court on Monday when prosecutors will present evidence against him to try and force the former school employee to stay in jail before two possible trials.

Currently Hoskins is in jail on a $250,000 bond. If convicted of the sex charges he could face 15 years in prison.
