Post office trims list of offices facing closure to 400
WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The Unites States Postal Service has trimmed its list of offices facing possible closure to just over 400.
The service is struggling with a sharp decline in mail volume, a decline caused by the recession and the popularity of email. The agency's deficit could be as large as seven billion dollars in 2009.
Five West Michigan locations are on the list of those facing closure. Two are in Muskegon, two more are in Grand Rapids and one is in Kalamazoo.
Being on that list is not a guarantee of closure, but at one point the list of offices was near 700.
