Talking on a cell phone and breastfeeding while driving
KETTERING, Ohio (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Ohio mother faces charges for breastfeeding her daughter while driving her other children to school.
"I'm following behind a lady in a van who is driving while breastfeeding her newborn baby and talking on the cell phone," said a 911 caller.
Officers then pulled over the mother and issued her a ticket for not having her child in a car seat.
Police say this is a serious safety issue because that child could be injured in a crash or if the air bag deployed.
The mother says she didn't do anything wrong and may do it again.
"I don't want anything to happen to any of my children, that's why I tell them to get in the seat belt, but this particular morning that child wanted to eat, and I did feed my child," said Genine Compton.
"In my 12 years in law enforcement I've never run into anything like this. You know, all you can really do is shake your head," said Officer Michael Burke of the Kettering Police Department.
If convicted Compton could face up to 180 days in jail.
