Kalamazoo Co. man may have equine encephalitis

CINCINNATI, Ohio (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A man from Kalamazoo County is in the hospital with what may be Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

Officials say he's quite ill.

The 61-year-old man is in the hospital in Cincinnati.

Health officials say if his illness is confirmed by the CDC, everyone in south west Michigan could be at risk of catching EEE.

It's a virus carried by mosquitoes that has killed five horses in the area this month alone.

Officials say not to take chances. Do whatever you can to avoid mosquito bites.

People younger than 15 or older than 50 are most vulnerable.
