Brockovich back in West Michigan

June 29, 2009 - 6:25 PM

PAW PAW, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Erin Brockovich will be in Paw Paw Monday night to meet with folks who are concerned about groundwater contamination from the Coca-Cola plant.

For years, a Coca-Cola plant sprayed its wastewater onto the ground, leaving behind dangerous chemicals in the ground water.

The plant has since stopped the spraying and has been offering bottled water to anyone affected.

Brockovich is to be at a town hall meeting that starts at 6:00 at the high-school.

The Coca-Cola dispute is just one of several environmental issues that Brockovich is getting involved in locally. Following her Paw Paw visit, Brockovich will head north to Fennville, where a similar dispute alleges that a Birdseye food plant has contaminated the local groundwater with arsenic and other toxic chemicals.

Brockovich and her team were in West Michigan in April to interview residents. This time they're planning to update residents on their progress and talk about the possibility of legal action.
