PLAINWELL, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The City of Plainwell is getting a big grant to redevelop its closed paper mill.

The city is getting almost $1.5 million. One million dollars is coming from a blight elimination grant, that money will be used to clear and demolish several of the mill buildings. The city was also awarded another $300,000 for redevelopment.

Plainwell hopes to begin demolishing parts of the abandoned site in 2010.

The historic heart of the mill will be restored into a new City Hall and library. Since spring, Plainwell has been awarded nearly three million in grant funding.
