The Kalamazoo Township Police Department says it happened around 1a.m. Saturday at the Speedway Gas Station located on the 3700 block of Gull Road.
Police say the 27-year-old victim left her car running when she ran inside. The suspect, Joseph Scott Borgais, 18, of Kalamazoo, jumped into the car and took off.
Police attempted to stop the stolen vehicle on East Main Street but Borgais put the pedal to the metal. The pursuit continued all the way to Allegan County. It ended when the vehicle crashed on 120th Avenue near 13th Street in Martin. The suspect then took off running.
A Michigan State Police K-9 unit tracked down Borgais who was hiding 50-feet in up in a tree. He was taken into custody and lodge in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
He's expected to be arraigned Monday.
