13-year-old girl leads police on high speed chase

SPARTA, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Police in Sparta say a 13-year-old girl led them on a high speed chase over the weekend.

Police say the girl grabbed her dad's keys while they were at church on Sunday morning and took off in the family mini-van.

The girl's mother, who was on her way to the church, noticed her daughter in the van and called police.

Officers say the girl was driving as fast as 80 miles an hour and they had to back off because they didn't want her to crash. The girl crashed anyway, shortly after rounding a corner.

The girl is okay after the crash, but police say she will be charged with fleeing and eluding.
