Portage attorney sentenced for fraud
PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Portage attorney and his client from Hickory Corners have received sentences for tax fraud.
John Campbell admits that between 1999 and 2006 he worked with a company in the Virgin Islands to promote, sell and set up off-shore tax shelters.
Campbell was the Resident Director of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone Law Firm in Kalamazoo.
A judge sentenced him Tuesday to six years in prison for defrauding the government.
His client, Oskar Poch, admitted to lying to the IRS and fudging his taxes by using one of those tax shelters.
He was sentenced to a year of probation.
