WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The state is scrapping 140 road and bridge construction projects because it couldn't come up with the money to get federal matching dollars.

That's $740 million worth of work.

One of those projects is in Allegan County. Reconstruction of M-89 from US-131 to Hicks Street in Plainwell is on hold for now.

The federal dollars are there for the project, but the state can't match those funds.

Some other projects put on hold include repairs to M-231 over the Grand River. In Calhoun County M-DOT postponed plans to replace the M-66 bridge over Wanodaga Creek.

A similar project in Kent County was put on hold at M-21 over the GTW Railroad.
