Police looking for "good samaritan" who stole puppy
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police in Schoolcraft are looking for a man who stole a puppy, after saying he'd return it to its owners.
It happened early Wednesday afternoon at the Speedway gas station on Grand Street. That's when gas station attendants noticed a little black puppy nosing around outside, without an owner nearby.
That puppy was 11-week-old Emmett, a black lab-pit bull mix who belongs to Ashton White and Tara Maser, who live next door to the gas station.
Emmett had pushed his way out the front door of White and Maser's home, and had wandered over to the parking lot of the gas station without his owners knowing.
Employees at the gas station say that a man came into the station, and said he'd bring the puppy back to its owners. The employees thought the man was trying to be a good samaritan, but people outside the gas station say they saw him put Emmett in his car, and drove off with him.
Maser says she's sick with worry about her puppy, and doesn't know how someone could just run off with him.
"I think it's horrible, I was heartbroken," she told Newschannel 3. "I was heartbroken yesterday and all day today."
Police say that the man took off in a black or blue full sized car, possibly with a Detroit Tigers logo in the back window.
Maser and White say they don't necessarily care if the man is prosecuted, they just want Emmett back.
"Hopefully he still has my dog, that's what I'm hoping," said Maser. "I just want my dog back."
If you have any information about where Emmett is, call Schoolcraft Police at (269) 679-5600, or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
