Gas leak forces evacuation of two schools

MIDDLEVILLE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A gas leak forced students at a high school and elementary school to evacuate on Wednesday.

Thornapple Kellogg Schools says the gas leak occurred when excavation work was being done by the Village of Middleville across the street from the high school.

High school students and students at Page Elementary were evacuated to the middle school and Lee Elementary.

Consumers Energy says the leak was capped by 11:00 am.

School officials say the students who were evacuated will have lunch at their new location and then be bussed back to their schools.

School will continue as scheduled for the rest of Wednesday and as scheduled for Thursday.
