Residents say boil order in South Haven likely to stick around
SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The City of South Haven is dealing with a water-main break and a water shut down, but even when the water comes back on, the problems won't necessarily be over.
Residents of a hill-top in South Haven tell Newschannel 3 that they spent Monday morning watching the water rise below them.
The cause of all that water was a major water-main break at the site of the city's new water filtration plant. That break sent water gushing into the construction site.
"The main problem is access to get the repairs done," said Public Works Director Roger Huff.
City officials say they hope to have the repairs done by the end of Monday, but they say the water and the effects of the loss of water pressure will stick around for a while. Those effects prompted a boil water order for South Haven and surrounding townships.
Residents Newschannel 3 spoke with on Monday say they expect to be under the boil order for at least two or three days.
