High speed chase ends with arrest
BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – State police were involved in a high speed chase on I-196 Sunday morning.
Officers say that around 9:45 Sunday a trooper passed a speeding Mustang traveling southbound on I-196 near the seven mile marker. The Mustang was driving at 108 miles per hour.
The trooper turned around and began chasing the Mustang onto I-94 and into the Benton Harbor area.
Police say that the driver swerved at Benton Township police officers when they set up a partial road block.
The driver continued fleeing on I-94, eventually driving northbound on I-196.
The Mustang was apprehended after police deployed stop-sticks at the two mile marker on I-196.
The driver was arrested for fleeing and eluding, auto theft and possession of marijuana.
Police say that the Mustang was stolen from the Holland area. The owner was unaware of the theft at the time of the chase.
The 23-year-old driver is currently in the Berrien County Jail.
