Old Tiger stadium to be leveled
DETROIT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Efforts to save a part of the old Tiger Stadium have struck out.
The Detroit City Commission voted 7-to-1 Tuesday to demolish what's left of the ballpark.
A section from dugout to dugout was spared last year after a non-profit group tried to raise money to redevelop that area as a park or sports museum. They also wanted to save the field so kids could play on it.
The group could not come up with enough money to make it happen.
Still, members are holding out hope city leaders will have a change of heart.
"I'd ask people to contact their representatives, contact the mayor, contact the city council and express their love for this place," said Tom Linn of the Tiger Stadium Conservancy.
Right now, the city is looking for a contractor to do the demolition.
As soon as they find one the stadium will be leveled.
