Upton joins fight for postal jobs
KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Congressman Fred Upton has joined the fight to save postal jobs in Kalamazoo County.
A recent postal service "pre-study" recommended consolidating West Michigan processing plants and possibly closing the Oshtemo Township facility and moving operations to Grand Rapids.
More than 300 people work there.
Congressman Upton wrote a letter to the postmaster.
He says the study is unauthorized and goes against protocol, which requires public notification and a comment period.
He also expressed concerns about the effects consolidation would have on postal families and postal service in Kalamazoo.
