Firefighter arrested and charged

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A Plainfield firefighter who was under investigation for alleged criminal sexual conduct has now been arrested.

The Kent County Sheriff's Department has arrested 40-year-old Jeffrey Hawkins. He faces four charges, including two counts of accosting children for immoral purposes, and two charges of using computers to commit a crime.

Hawkins is already a registered sex offender for a fourth degree offense involving a minor in 1997. Hawkins is a lieutenant with Plainfield Township Fire and has been with the department since 1993.
