Woman critical after vehicle struck by semi

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A 48-year-old woman from Sparta is in critical condition after a Tuesday afternoon crash.

Deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department say that 48-year-old Tamara Winters was driving westbound on Leonard Road around 1:30 pm Tuesday when she came to the intersection of Leonard and 68th Avenue.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements lead investigators to believe that Winters stopped at a red light at 68th Avenue, and only paused before turning left on a red light onto 68th Avenue.

Winters' car was struck by a semi-truck traveling north bound on 68th.

Winters became stuck in her vehicle and had to be extracted by emergency personnel. She was taken to Spectrum Butterworth in critical condition.
