Clerk foils would-be robber
SOUTH HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A would-be robber is facing charges after a clerk foiled his Christmas Eve plans.
State Troopers say that around 11:30 pm Thursday night, a man attempted to hold up the Shell on M-140 near South Haven.
The suspect wore a gray mask and a hood and handed the clerk a note demanding money. The suspect also pointed an object at the clerk from under his shirt, but the clerk did not believe it was a gun.
The clerk called the would-be robber's bluff and started dialing 911. That's when the suspect ran.
Troopers tracked his vehicle to a nearby driveway and found the mask on the seat. Troopers were also able to find and arrest the suspect. He's currently in the Van Buren County jail.
