COLDWATER, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man is thrown in jail for trying to kidnap a girl.

The Coldwater Police Department says it happened around 2:30p.m. Thursday in the area of Butters Avenue and Riverside Drive.

A 12-year-old girl told police that she and a friend were walking in the area when a man got out of his vehicle and grabbed her from behind. The two girls fought the attacker, freed themselves, and ran into a nearby family member's apartment.

Police were able to locate a male subject in the area. After an investigation the 33-year-old was arrested and lodged at the Branch County Jail for Attempted Abduction/Kidnapping charges.
