It's your turn
WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - After months of hearing the from the candidates in speeches and ads, it's now your turn.
It's your voice we hear today as you vote.
The polls opened at 7:00 a.m. and they stay open until 8:00 tonight.
The Michigan Secretary of State is expecting a record turnout of about 5 million voters, so bring your patience and expect long lines.
If you're heading to the polls this morning there are some good reminders for you that'll help move those lines along.
Don't forget your photo ID. It doesn't need to have your address on it. If you don't have one, you can still vote simply by signing an affidavit. Your ballot will be counted with all the others. Just keep in mind this may take a few extra minutes.
If you're a first-time voter you must appear in person today to cast your vote. There are exceptions to this requirement though, like if you're over the age of sixty or you are disabled.
Some things to leave at home include campaign materials like T-shirts and buttons. They're not allowed within 100 feet of any polling place. Neither are cameras.
You may be able to avoid long lines by voting during off-peak times. Between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 am or in the afternoon between 2:00 and 4:00 are historically slower times.
We want to know about your voting experience today. Send an email to newscenter@wwmt.com and relate your experiences.
