Man found lying in icy creek

BANGOR TWP, Mich.  (NEWSCHANNEL 3) -

A 59-year-old Bangor man was found laying unresponsive in an icy creek near his truck just before 11pm on Saturday night at 59010 26th Avenue in Bangor Township.

Van Buren County Sheriff Deputies and Bangor Quick Response lifted the man out of the water.  His lower half was submerged in the icy waters of a creek.  Temperatures at the time were in single digits.

He was taken to a local hospital for head injuries and exposure to extreme temperatures.  He was then airlifted to Bronson Hospital.

Police said he tried to back the vehicle out of his driveway, missed a sharp bend, and continued straight into a ravine.  The man had already driven another vehicle off the driveway getting it lodged in the snow.

Police believe alcohol is a factor and they plan to charge the man if he recovers.
