More victims come forward in Craigslist con
KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Police in Kent County say that more women have come forward saying they gave their personal information to a Craigslist con.
Police say the suspect posted an ad saying he needed a babysitter. When the women showed up in response to the ad, the suspect took their personal information, and $20 dollars to perform a background check.
He gave all the women who he took the money and information from an address in Kentwood where they were to meet his wife and children. That address didn't exist.
When the victims went to the address, some of them ran into one another, and realized that they'd been conned.
Newschannel 3 spoke to a man in the neighborhood who saw the women searching for that false address one by one.
"One car just kept coming, then another, I asked if they gave him their personal info, they said yes, I said you're in big trouble," said David Dietz.
Police say up to 14 victims have come forward, including one from Ann Arbor.
Police worry that the man could have stolen the women's identities.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
