2 break through wall to steal coins from car wash

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two men have been arrested for breaking into a car wash on Cork Street early Monday.

A Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer on routine patrol noticed a car parked behind the car wash around 2:40 a.m. Monday morning. The officer became suspicious after he noticed that the man outside of the vehicle wasn't washing his car, but was instead on his cell phone, pacing back in forth near the vehicle.

When the officer ran the license plate on the vehicle he found it to be stolen. After detaining the man backup officers discovered that three cinder blocks had been removed from the rear of the building.

A K-9 officer's persuasive barks led a second suspect to surrender from inside the hole. He had been hiding in the building.

Police say that the suspects had broken into the car wash in an attempt to steal coins that were stored inside. Both men were arrested for burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.
