2 fires and blackout caused by squirrel in Washington

WASHINGTON (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - In Washington state a neighborhood had to deal with two fires and a power outage all within a matter of minutes.

Investigators blame all of it on a squirrel.

They say it started when the rodent landed on a transformer. That burned a power line which fell on a metal fence and a car. The car caught fire.

At the same time the electric current went through the fence and down into a natural gas pipeline. The gas ignited, burning two meters at nearby houses.

It also knocked out power to the neighborhood for four hours.

The squirrel, by the way, didn't make it.
