MATTAWAN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new effort to clean up your drinking water could make it turn colors for a little while.

The Village of Mattawan plans to start up its new arsenic treatment plant between Wednesday and Friday.

The plant will remove arsenic from the water.

To get it started the village needs to flush the system. That means you could see a slight rust color coming from your faucet. It's not hazardous, but it could stain light colored clothing if you wash with it.

Mattawan spent more than $2 million on the new treatment plant to meet stricter federal drinking water standards.
