FDA warns of counterfeit weight loss pill

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The FDA wants people to be on the lookout for counterfeit, and potentially harmful Alli capsules. Alli is an over-the-counter weight loss pill.

For those using Alli, the FDA says there are ways to spot a fake from the real thing. Real Alli capsules will have a foil seal under the cap reading "sealed for your protection." The counterfeit version has a plain seal.

The fake version is also a larger capsule with a white powder inside, instead of small white pellets.

The fake version is also missing what's called a lot code, and has an eight digit expiration date. The real capsules come with a four digit expiration date.

If you think you've gotten any of the fake Alli, the FDA wants to hear from you. You can get in touch with them through their website here.
