Two more casinos could be coming to West Mich.
WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two more casinos could be coming to West Michigan.
It's part of a revenue-sharing settlement between the state and the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. The tribe operates the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo. The tribe had stopped making payments to the state because of a dispute over the Michigan Lottery's Club Keno game.
Under a new agreement, the tribe will resume those revenue-sharing payments, but the state lowered the amount from 8 to 6 percent.
The agreement also gives the tribe the right to develop two more casinos in Southwest Michigan; one in Van Buren County near Hartford, and one in Cass County near Dowagiac.
The new casinos can only have 1,000 slot machines each, and no table games.
Newschannel 3 spoke with a tribal representative on Monday who said that there are currently no official plans to build in either county, but he did say the tribe is excited about the possibilities for new jobs and new sources of revenue for both the state and the tribe.
