WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The conditions are prime for wildfires in some parts of West Michigan Wednesday.

Just one spark can ignite a huge blaze that can spread out of control.

A controlled burn can get out of control in just minutes and with Wednesday's warm windy weather the National Weather Service says the fire danger is high.

A 50 acre brush fire in northern Kent County destroyed a Sand Lake home last month after fire investigators say they think someone's burning got out of control.

We're reaching the end of fire danger season. With grass getting greener firefighters say we're just about out of the woods, but we aren't there just yet.

If you plan on doing any burning, maybe starting up a campfire this Memorial Day weekend, they urge you to be extra careful.

"They don't realize if there's a wind it can carry embers wherever and this is the result of what can happen," said Dan Richards of the Sand Lake Fire Department, speaking of the Sand Lake fire.

The bottom line: If it's too windy out your best bet is to hold off on starting that fire, and if you do notice things getting a little out of control, call your local fire department.
