Ms. Wheelchair Michigan goes skydiving

ALLEGAN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Ms. Wheelchair Michigan and group of other disabled people went skydiving in Allegan Friday afternoon, proving that the only limits are the ones we put on ourselves.

Ms. Wheelchair Michigan Amber Macey and ten others from across the Midwest all took the plunge at the Allegan City Airport, despite the obvious constraints.

"You have to make the best of it," said Macey. "You have two choices; you can either stay home, or live life. This is totally up my alley."

At the age of 15, a car accident severed Macey's spinal cord, and for the past 13 years she's been confined to a wheelchair.

Macey got the idea to bring a group of disabled people skydiving after she did it herself in Mexico - and loved it. Kevin Walker was one of the people she inspired, and he also suited up for Friday's jump.

"You come close to losing a lot - your taste for life changes," Walker told Newschannel 3. "Why not do everything you can, and why not jump?"

A number of people in the group are now talking about going scuba diving in the Carribean together.
