MILAN, Mich. (AP) - Mourners found comfort in happy memories of a Monroe County couple who died within a day of each other after 73 years of marriage.
Emil and Genevieve Schultz were buried side by side Thursday in Milan, where they lived in the house Emil built in 1938 and ran a business now in its fourth generation of family ownership.
The couple were in their 90s when Genevieve died Saturday and Emil died the next morning. They had four children, all of whom live in the Milan area, and 11 grandchildren, nine of them area residents.
Emil was hospitalized and had been given just days to live when Genevieve was found dead in her home by their eldest son, Marvin.
He tells The Monroe Evening News he thinks she died of a broken heart.
