Pedro Diaz

It started with a beer can and escalated to a pregnant chihuahua being thrown through a window

NEAR HARTFORD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A beer can triggered a bizarre chain of events that ended with a man facing serious charges.

It all started Friday evening in a home on 62nd Street south of Hartford. The victim tells deputies her boyfriend, Pedro Diaz, hit her in the head with the beer can, so she made him leave.

Later that night Diaz came back to the house. Deputies say he forced his way in and threatened her.

She ran to the car to get away and he threw rocks through the windshield.

Then, the woman says Diaz picked up her chihuahua, who is pregnant, and threw it through the broken window.

Diaz took off, but police used a dog to track him down. They ended up tasering him to get him under control. He suffered puncture wounds associated with the taser to the chest and groin.

Diaz now faces a number of charges, including cruelty to animals, domestic violence-felony, resisting officers and damage to private property. This is his second offense in two weeks involving a domestic violence situation, according to police.

The chihuahua was injured in the incident. Its condition is not known.
