Our Snowstorm Has Just Begun

Good morning!  Snow started falling around 3 AM this morning and has steadily picked up in intensity and marched directly northward.  On either side of I-94 a moderate snow has already produced close to 1" in Kalamazoo and certainly near or above that to the south.  We'll continue to track a steadier and heavier snow throughout all of West Michigan toward lunchtime and through your evening drive.  Because light snow is all we're dealing with now, your morning drive will be much easier than the evening one.  Please keep this in mind, it will take much longer to get home, to your children's school, or wherever you may be headed.

Northeast winds are already rendering wind chills near 10 degrees this morning.  These same winds will get even stronger later today and tonight and lead to blowing and drifting snow.  Drifts will be several feet high, especially on east-west highways.  Visibilities will also be close to zero because of the wind.  In short, if you don't have to travel later today and today, we don't recommend it.

On the backside of the storm, lake effect snow showers will lead to additional light accumulations Wednesday night and Thursday.  Another shot of light snow is possible this Sunday and next Monday.  Please keep it right here throughout this storm.  We'll cover every angle here, at wwmt.com, on-air, and on twitter and facebook.  Remember, there are some school closings already.  Please be safe and have a great day!
