Family Saved By Coast Guard
Comments 0 | Recommend 0KALAMAZOO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The U.S. Coast Guard saved a family from a sinking boat Friday.
Coast Guard Station Ludington received a distress call at 5:33 p.m. Friday from a 28 ft. recreational vessel taking on water.
Coast Guard crew members loaded up on their 30 ft. utility boat and headed 8 miles out towards the sinking ship. As soon as they arrived they started transferring the five people on board.
They include a 15-year-old boy, 12-year-old girl, their mother and father, and an older gentlemen.
Two crew members got on the sinking boat and tried to save it using a de-watering pump. But it was too late the boat sank and the two had to be pulled out of the water.
As of now they are not sure why the boat took on water and the boat can't be salvaged because it sank about 350 ft.
