Bouchard opposes affirmative action ballot issue
LANSING (AP) - U.S. Senate hopeful Michael Bouchard has joined a list of prominent Republicans opposing a proposal that would ban some affirmative action programs in Michigan.
Bouchard said he can not support the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative proposal that appears headed to the November 2006 ballot.
He joins Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos and Senate hopeful Keith Butler opposing the proposed constitutional amendment.
Bouchard, Butler and Jerry Zandstra all seek the Republican bid to face Democratic U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow in 2006.
Zandstra supports the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative.
