Deer causes serious crash

DECATUR TWP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 50-year-old was taken to the hospital after swerving to miss a deer and flipping her car on 88th Avenue in Decatur Township.

It happened shortly after midnight on Saturday. When police arrived they found the car lying on it's roof, just off the edge of the road. Lorraine Monica Stanek of Marcellus was trapped inside the car and had several head injuries.

Stanek was extricated from the car and taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital.

Stanek told police that she was driving eastbound on 88th Avenue when a deer jumped into the road. She swerved to miss the deer, lost control of the car and ran off the road into a steep embankment hitting a tree and flipping over.

Speed was a factor in the crash and investigators aren't sure if alcohol was involved at this time. Police are still investigating.
