Comments 0 | Recommend 0DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - Ford Motor Co. is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Model T with a challenge.
The automaker is asking five universities to create a vehicle that shares what Ford says are attributes of the Model T: simple, lightweight, practical and compelling. Ford says the vehicle should be priced below $7,000.
The schools are Aachen University in Germany; Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif.; Deakin University in Australia; Lawrence Technological University in Southfield; and the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The Detroit News reports the challenge was announced Monday at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn. Two winners will be announced Oct. 1, when Ford marks the Model T's 100th anniversary.
Winning schools get $25,000 each in scholarships.
