BATTLE CREEK (Newschannel 3) - A former daycare operator from Springfield is on trial, accused drugging and killing a child in her care.

Ruthann Jarvis is charged with Second Degree Murder and Child Abuse.

Toxicology results show the child, 5-month-old Damien Lewis, died from taking a deadly dose of the sleeping pill Ambien last September.

A friend admits she gave Jarvis samples of the drug because she was having trouble sleeping, and that friend says after Damien died, Jarvis left her a voice mail, begging her not to tell police about the medicine.

The prosecution is expected to rest its case on Wednesday.
