Detroit mayor meets with 2 teen shooting victims
DETROIT (AP) - Mayor Dave Bing is urging Detroit residents to be vigilant and get involved to help stem violence throughout the city.
Bing met Thursday morning with two students shot while waiting for a public bus after summer-school classes. He also spoke with their families at a local hospital.
Bing tells reporters that "looking at the two young people, it hurts."
He says his office will meet later Thursday with the top federal prosecutor in Detroit on a strategy to fight crime. Bing expects to have a plan in place before fall classes start.
The two students were among seven teenagers shot Tuesday near Cody Ninth Grade Academy.
The meeting came a day after one of two suspected gunmen in the shooting surrendered to police.
