AG denies scuttling probe of ex-Detroit mayor

DETROIT (AP) - Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox tells the Detroit Free Press he didn't scuttle a 2003 joint investigation with state police of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, including an alleged cover-up of the beating of a stripper at the mayor's official residence.

In an exclusive interview published Sunday, Cox says he had no authority to stop the probe ordered by Gov. Jennifer Granholm and conducted a swift but thorough investigation.

Cox is scheduled to be deposed Dec. 11 in a lawsuit by the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara Greene.

Greene was fatally shot a few months after the alleged party at the mayor's official Manoogian Mansion residence.
