Fraud charges against former Engler aide dropped
MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) - Charges have been dropped against former Gov. John Engler's northern Michigan representative, who was accused of fraud involving a Marquette condominium development.
Forty-eight-year-old Brian Swift had been charged with fraud, fraudulent use of building contractor funds and conspiracy.
The Mining Journal of Marquette reports Wednesday that charges against three defendants in the case, including Swift, were dismissed.
Still facing the same counts are two prominent Republicans. They include former Marquette County GOP Chairman Joel Westrom and Michael Gokey, who served as deputy northern Michigan representative under Engler.
They are scheduled for a preliminary examination Dec. 1.
