Union high teachers, students launch 'thrift shop' parody video
What do you get when you mix some all-star teachers withgreat high school students and a Top 20 song? In this case, you get aremarkable video with a unique parody of the popular 'Thrift Shop' song allabout learning math and improving grades.
Algebra I Teachers Bill Morris and Jon Tillema of Union HighSchool worked with David Dublis, the Instructional Technology Specialist, andstudents at Union High School to create the video. They wrote this one of akind song with a play offlyrics from the songlike instead of"I'm gonna pop some tags" it is "I'm gonna up my grades".
The Union teachers, students, and GRPS officials want to seethis go viral and are asking views to spread the word.
"This video embodies the remarkable talent we have inthis district andtransformation that is happening at Union HighSchool," said Teresa Weatherall Neal, Superintendent of Schools."It's this kind of teaching and student engagement that makes learning funand exciting. Kids are drawn to this and want to be in the classroom with theseteachers to learn from them. I am really impressed with this work. Union ismaking it happen and moving the numbers."
