Fiscal cliff fears impact holiday sales

Updated: Wednesday, December 26 2012, 07:44 AM EST
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Fear of the fiscal cliff has impacted holiday retail sales.

Economists say this year has been the weakest shopping season since 2008 when the nation was in a deep recession.

A report out Tuesday that tracks spending says holiday sales increased 0.7 percent. Analysts had expected sales to grow 3 to 4 percent.

They say aside from economic concerns, the 2012 shopping season was also disrupted by bad weather, specifically Superstorm Sandy.
