Updated: Saturday, March 9 2013, 01:17 PM EST
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer settled 80 percent of the more than 2,700 lawsuits costing the company around $273 million in 2012.

Pfizer introduced the anti-smoking drug Chantix in the U.S. in 2006, and started receiving lawsuits in 2008, alleging  the drug caused suicides and other injuries.

By 2009, the Food and Drug Administration required a black box label on the drug warning of the risk of suicidal thoughts, depression, and other behavior changes.
