LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Former Congressman Mark Schauer has just announced he will run for governor in 2014.
We're told he will kick off his campaign Tuesday night.
Schauer filed his candidacy paperwork with the Secretary of State's Office Tuesday morning and has since taken to social media.
Tuesday morning he tweeted: "I'm in. I'm ready to run, I'm ready to work and I'm ready to win."
The small business owner from Battle Creek is so far the only person to announce he'll run against Governor Snyder next year.
Schauer served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011. Before that he served in both the state House and Senate.
He says Michigan, “needs a governor who will protect the middle class and invest in education.”
Schauer will speak in Detroit Tuesday night at a meeting for the Macomb County Democratic Party.
He also announced his plans to travel the state this summer getting a feel for how voters would like to see Michigan's economy rebuilt.
