MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - About 36,000 more Michigan residents picked up an insurance plan last month under the federal health care law.

That brings the number of Michigan residents insured by a private plan to 112,000.

Government officials say that is outpacing what they projected for this time by 20,000 people.

86-percent of all those signing up have also qualified for tax credits to offset a portion of their premium.

The Obama administration is unable to say how many of those enrolling for coverage were previously uninsured.

Some might have been at risk of losing policies because they didn't meet the law's standards.
