Report: Hospitals getting safer for patients

Updated: Wednesday, May 7, 2014 |
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Hospitals are becoming safer for patients due to a quality improvement partnership between industry and federal agencies.

That's according to a government report from Health and Human Services.

The report finds that adverse events like medication mistakes, falls and infections went down by nine percent from 2010 to 2012.

That prevented nearly 15,000 deaths and saved $4-billion in costs.

Readmission rates also declined for a second year in a row.
