Scientists researching concussions using fruit flies story image
WISCONSIN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - University of Wisconsin scientists expect breakthroughs in the coming year on how to treat concussions.

And it's all thanks to research between the brain and fruit flies.

The two genetics professors use a simple contraption made of heavy-wired spring and base board to test how brain injuries affect those flies.

They say by studying the disoriented insects they will better be able to find out if some people are more prone to serious injury from hard hits to the head.

The scientists say the building blocks of the bug's brain are similar as what's in a human skull.
